Department of Physics

::Department of Physics::

Departmental Profile :

Physics, the science that studies Nature, Natural Phenomena, matter, and energy in their varied forms, has a very long history. It dates back to prehistoric times, when observation of the heavens was driven by both navigational needs and religious motivations. Physics proper at that time was indistinguishable from philosophy. The birth of Physics as a modern natural science is traditionally equated with the work of Galileo Galilei (1564 –1642), who is credited with putting Physics on an experimental basis, and with insisting that the comparison with the actual behaviour of nature must be the ultimate check for all concepts and theories within Physics.

The Department of Physics at Science College Kokrajhar is a dedicated centre Striving for excellence and committed to quality teaching, holistic education, innovative research, and a vibrant environment. The department was established in 1995 along with the college and is currently affiliated with Bodoland University. The Department offers B.Sc. Physics (6 semesters), B.Sc. Physics with Honours or B.Sc. Physics with Honours and Research (8 semesters) and Physics course for Higher Secondary. The Department seeks to cultivate deep interest in Physics, motivate students for advance study and research. The department provides hands-on exposure to software like FORTRAN, C++, MATLAB, Scilab, Python, and LaTeX. Department have collaborations with several reputed institutes and research centres like IASST, Guwahati; IMD, Pune; RARS, Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar Planetarium, Kokrajhar etc. The department is proud to have highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty members who are passionate about teaching and research. They connect research with classroom activities and involve students. Research interest of the faculty members include atmospheric science, time series data analysis, Nonlinear dynamics, study the interstellar medium of astronomy and astrophysics, Material Science, Computational Physics, etc.

OBJECTIVE :

• To develop a keen interest in Physics and motivate students to pursue higher studies.

• To contribute towards the popularisation of Physics.

• To start introduce new non- conventional courses which will develop the required skill sets and enhance students employability.
